Writer's Process Blog Hop

1) What am I working on?

I am currently preparing a Time Travel based on the 1852 Modoc War of northern California/southern Oregon, and a Vampire Romance for my beta reader. I plan to release both in 2014! The Vampire is now with my beta reader, and at the moment I’m editing the Modoc story.

2) How does my work differ from others of its genre?
I suppose my work differs from others of its genre because I do not write by the “rules - guidelines” of mass market traditionally published works. I write romantic fantasy as I see it in my mind, not as how “they” see it. I believe I’m doing it right because of all the rave reviews my works receive.

3) Why do I write what I do?
I’ve been told I have a very vivid imagination. I suppose that’s why I write what I do. My imagination can’t be controlled by reality, I guess. LOL!

4) How does my writing process work?
I’m not sure I really Have a “writing process” s defined. Between time spent with my elderly mother and other life responsibilities, my writing happens whenever I have time to stand in front of my computer and write. But I always make sure to write at least 100 words a day. As in the writer’s challenge among each other on two writers loops I’m on; 100x100 (100 words a day for 100 days.) Except I’ve extended it to be a forever type of thing instead of stopping at a certain length of time.
It works for me, so I guess it is my “process.” By doing that for the past 4+ years I’ve seen a contract come to me for my trilogy – CONNECTIONS - and see a bright future for more soon to be released titles!

Post it on your blog and then tag three-four other authors you know.
It will be interesting to see how far it keeps going :)

Another Rave 5 Star Review!

The language pulled me back to a time when superstitions could decide the life or death of a person, regardless of their character. The author shows an amazing ability to keep sanity for the heroine, staying true to a loving heart in spite of the hardships surrounding her. The ability to contrast those two mental states in her writing suggests a hint of the life battles that the author must have faced in dealing with her own life challenges with the prejudices of others who did not understand her true self, but only saw what they believed. To the author: Please keep writing from the perspective of your experiences as it gives great depth to the personality your characters.

Check out this Review I received on Amazon for my first novella which debuted on Amazon at #10!!!

"The opening of Fated sets the scene quite well and interweaves backstory with the action as Valerie Baldwin, a compassionate healer and a very well-drawn character, contemplates her life as an unwed woman in a 1690s religious New World colony where witchcraft is taken as reality, and punishment is swift and brutal. The author, Janette Harjo, uses a style that befits the era and place of the story.
When Valerie befriends a young Indian man and his tribe, suspicion grows in the fanatically religious community of her motives to mix with these heathens. Possibly too naive for the time and the place, Valerie courageously carries on, knowing in her heart that she does good work for the colony's children.
To deepen the conflict, Alecksander Stone, a renowned witch hunter, has been called upon to target Valerie as a witch. But these two young people from opposite sides of religious fanaticism, find themselves drawn to each other. In their strained but growing relationship, Alecksander's stern demeanor begins to crack, and Valerie's mistrust of his motives is curbed by the passion she feels for him. In an intuitive moment, where Valerie contemplates the horrible fate of those denounced as witches: rock crushing, drowning, burning at the stake, she asks herself "Why do I have this strong desire?"
Can two people from such different religious views find common ground and come together?
If you like a well done romance, you're sure to enjoy Fated.
I think Janette Harpo will have a long and successful career as a writer"

Authors in Bloom Blog Hop!

Hello! I am Janette Harjo and I am Delighted to be a part of the Authors in Bloom Blog Hop!

I am sorry to say I don’t have a gardening tip for you here. I guess I’ll come right out and say it; if you look up Brown Thumb in the dictionary, you’ll find a picture of me. I killed a cactus recently because I forgot to water it! Imagine that?? LOL!

I’m not much of a cook, either, as I live alone and only need to feed myself. I find it hard to cook a full meal just for me. Something I do like to make in the summer months is a fruit smoothie. It’s really very simple.

All you need is:
a small container of yogurt, any flavor & a like-sized glass of milk (any kind. I use Almond milk)
a handful of frozen fruit, any variety (or fresh fruit if you have it)
and a banana
1st place the fruit in a blender and blend it all together to desired consistency of fruit size
2nd add the yogurt and milk and blend all together, again to desired smoothie consistency
And there you have it! ENJOY!

I write Romantic Fantasy, and I’d Love to tell you about the CONNECTIONS Trilogy, my current release. It is a three novella story about cursed soul mates who search throughout the centuries for their happily ever-after. A child’s soul searches alongside their restless spirits.
