Valerie found her attention drawn from the task she had at hand with her young students of Copper Run, Oregon. An outrageous contraption caught the corner of her eye as it rolled through her peripheral vision along the town’s main street. Her senses immediately perked up at the abnormality in her small and otherwise quiet hometown.
Instinct turned her complete attention toward the window for her further investigation. What’s this? All sorts of possibilities ran through her mind at what she saw through the window of her small one-room school house. But then she caught herself with an internal argument.

A stranger's in town!

This is no common cowpoke.
His method of travel appeared as an outlandishly decorated wagon to the headmistress’ eye. An alert dark horse, itself in a showy harness to match its driver, stood connected to the outlandish carriage. In spite of the show his arrival made, the man, in particular, is what now held her attention captive.
Each of his showy movements spoke of a questionable nature to Valerie. Intuition told her she would need to keep an eye out and protect the innocents in her classroom from him.
She furthered her assumptions of his character with a more careful perusal of his equipment.

Polished "Episodes"

Uncanny!

Valerie stood as still as a photographic image and stared a hole through the side of the car. She made no more noise than a snowflake’s hit on the ground as she inched closer to her car, where she fully expected to be able to catch the culprit unaware of her cognizance. Once she reached her Honda’s side, she peered over into it until her neck hurt, but still did not see anyone. At that point, Valerie relaxed as best as she could, despite the pounding of her heart. HAPPY EASTER EVERYBODY!! I attended my church’s 2nd annual Easter Egg Hunt this morning and it turned out to be wonderful. In my mind’s eye, we had at least DOUBLE the people turn out for it as we did last year! By word of mouth, I’m looking for our event to double every year! How EXCITING! Everything inside Valerie, especially something deep down at the very core of her being, reacted to the man on her stage. His very presence held her spellbound. It fit him in an enigmatic way, like the man of mystery he portrayed himself as. She jerked her head up in an age-old reaction of her senses when he winced and brought his hand back from the floor sharply.

She tensed with the urge to jump up and run to him with pleas for forgiveness. The déjà vu of an ancient memory informed her she caused his pain. Its intensity seared through her with an equal torment as she sensed he experienced.

Valerie stiffened at the memory!

Valerie stiffened at the memory. With everything in her, she fought the distraction of her repressed memory. She trembled and fought to remain calm. On top of everything else, she needed to ignore the rage. It always surged within her when her childhood memory bared its ugly head. The strength of her remembered emotion severed any further chance at connection she might have achieved with the little boy at this time. But she needed to try.
